EDCOM Cancels ECHO

English Conversation Hours (ECHO) cannot be held Tuesday (10/16) and Thursday (10/18) due to busy schedules of the member. ECHO is a program from English Department Community (EDCOM) about movie discussion and public conversation. ECHO is usually held on Tuesday and Thursday at 3PM.

The Members of ECHO are from English Department (ED), and mostly from ED18. ECHO is a weekly activity to improve the public speaking skill of the members for academic purpose. The themes discussed each week are different. The activities usually start with watching the movie, before discussing it in the next session.

Niko, the committee of ECHO, wanted the members to focus on their activities so that in the next meeting, the members could focus on Echo. Niko said that the movie discussion will encourage their critical thinking and public speaking.

“The ECHO this week will be cancelled due to the members from ED18 that will prepare themselves for welcoming party on Saturday (10/20). Next week, Echo will be held as usual. I hope the members will focus on the next ECHO.” said Niko.

SKI held fundraising for Palu


UNS Islamic Student Spiritual Institute (SKI) of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) together with Solo Campus Propagation Forum (FSLDK) held an action "From Solo, for Palu", which was an action to raise funds for the victims of the earthquake that hit Palu, Central Sulawesi on the day Wednesday, October 3rd yesterday.

The fundraising event was held by distributing blank envelopes to each person in charge of the class at each department in FIB. The blank envelopes are then circulated to classes for students.

The action "From Solo, for Palu" was also held in nine other faculties at Sebelas Maret University. The plan to raise funds will continue to open until Sunday. No number target amount of money in this action, no matter how much the result obtained, it will still be distributed to the disaster victims.

According to the head of FSLDK Irwan Saputra, "From Solo, For Palu" is not just focusing on gathering charity funds, but also to inform and educate the community especially college student on the Palu and Donggala earthquake victim.

This event is not the first charity event that been held by SKI. SKI also held another fundraising charity event, such as for Lombok earthquake victim, Bali's mountain eruption victim, and even the Rohingya victim. According to Yoga, a member of SKI, these charity events are normal for SKI, it proofs that SKI is active on contributing for the community, whether it is local or international.

"I hope the fund raised in this event can be delivered directly to the victim of Lombok earthquake in form of food, clothes and other logistics. Me, in behave of SKI is glad that SKI could facilitate the student of FIB to distribute their help towards the victim," said Yoga.

International Visual Culture Exhibition Held for the second time in UNS

A visual art exhibition titled “International Visual Culture Exhibition” (IVCE) has been held at the Faculty of Design and Fine Art (FSRD) Universitas Sebelas Maret. The Exhibition will run from September 24-29th, 2018. Both local and international artists participating in this exhibition will present their best works of visual art design.

Around 20 international artists presenting their works are coming from many different countries, including Malaysia, New Zealand, Germany, Singapore, Afghanistan, Shanghai, Phnom Penh, and Toronto, while local artists are coming from Bandung, Surakarta, and Yogyakarta.

The theme of this exhibition is "Transcoding". This theme is chosen in with the philosophy of creating a new artwork which comes from existing materials. The works featured in this exhibition will be in form of fine art, sculpture, painting, videos, textile design, and photography, all with the same theme of Transcoding.

All the artworks presented have been judged from local and even international curators, including A. Sudjud Dartanto (Curator from Indonesia National Gallery) and Dr. Yakup Mohd Rafee (Lecturer from UNIMAS, Malaysia), while local judges from the Faculty of Design and Fine Art are Prof. Dr. Narsen Affatara, M.S, Prof. Dr. Nanang Rizali, Dr. Bedjo Riyanto, M.Hu. and Dr. Deny Tri Ardianto.

IVCE was officially opened by Rector of UNS Prof. Ravik Karsidi on Monday. On his greeting Ravik hopes that IVCE could contribute in giving acknowledge and appreciation of the artwork. Ravik also said further IVCE should not only be held in FSRD but as Surakarta governs agenda as well.
